Finance Assistant
Salary: £26,000–£29,000

We’re working with a well-respected client just west of Reading who are looking to welcome a proactive and detail-oriented Finance Assistant to join their friendly Finance team. This role will primarily focus on Accounts Payable and will receive training to produce insurance reports, whilst also supporting the wider finance function. You will also have the opportunity to support the Assistant Management Accountant and assist the Payments Team with reviewing and processing claims, taking on a varied, hands-on role that offers plenty of opportunity to develop your finance skills, and progress within the team.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts Payable (Primary focus):
- Process supplier invoices accurately and on time
- Match, batch, and code invoices
- Manage supplier queries and reconcile statements
- Ensure all approval processes are followed
Underwriting & Reporting support:
- Produce and maintain insurance underwriting reports with the Underwriter
- Assist with data extraction, analysis, and importation
- Support month-end reporting, particularly claims
- Ensure accuracy and integrity of financial and underwriting data
Data Cleansing & System Maintenance:
- Review and cleanse finance and underwriting data
- Identify discrepancies and resolve inconsistencies
- Support ongoing system improvements and data accuracy initiatives
Assistant Management Accountant support:
- Support reconciliations
- Assist with month-end close processes
- Provide cover during busy reporting periods
Payments & Claims Support:
- Assist the Payments Team with claims review
- Review claim documentation prior to payment
- Support accurate and timely claim payments
- Ensure compliance with internal controls and procedures
Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Previous experience in an Accounts Payable or Finance Assistant role
- Good attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
- Strong Excel skills (e.g., VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, Pivot Tables preferred)
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise workload
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Comfortable working with financial systems and large datasets
Desirable:
- Experience within insurance, or financial services
- Experience supporting month-end processes
- AAT studying or qualified (or willingness to study)
