Data Modeler – P&C Insurance

We're partnering with a well-established organisation within the insurance sector that is expanding its data function as part of a major transformation programme. They're looking to appoint an experienced Data Modeler to help shape the future of their enterprise data landscape, supporting everything from business reporting and analytics through to regulatory compliance and partner integrations. This role would suit someone who enjoys working closely with both technical and business stakeholders, translating complex insurance data into scalable, well-governed models that support strategic decision-making.
Responsibilities
As a key member of the data team, you'll be responsible for designing robust enterprise data models that underpin business-critical applications and reporting. Working alongside architects, engineers and business SMEs, you'll help establish data standards, improve governance, and ensure data solutions are fit for both operational and analytical use. You'll also play an important role in supporting cloud-based data platforms, enabling the integration of complex insurance datasets, and promoting best practice across the wider data function.
- Design and maintain conceptual, logical and physical data models for enterprise-wide initiatives
- Produce scalable data structures using Data Vault, dimensional modelling and relational modelling techniques
- Develop canonical data models that support core insurance processes including policy, premium, risk and claims data
- Create data structures and schemas to support API integrations and external partner data exchanges
- Work closely with engineering teams to implement models within Azure Databricks and modern cloud data environments
- Promote strong data governance through metadata management, model documentation and data standards
- Support regulatory and reporting requirements across the insurance business
- Provide technical guidance during solution design, data integration and partner onboarding activities
- Facilitate workshops and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure consistent modelling standards across the organisation
About You
- 10+ years' experience in data modelling or data architecture
- Strong hands-on experience with Erwin Data Modeler – essential
- Experience working within the London Market / P&C Insurance sector – essential
- Knowledge of Azure Databricks and modern cloud data platforms
- Experience with Medallion Architecture and Unity Catalog
- Strong understanding of Data Vault, Star Schema, Snowflake and 3NF modelling approaches
- Experience working with JSON/XML data structures and integration patterns
- Knowledge of industry standards such as ACORD (CSIO exposure would be advantageous)
- Understanding of data governance, regulatory reporting and compliance within Insurance
