Data Architect (excellent future career prospects)
Remote/UK Based | to £100,000
About the Company
Our client is an ambitious and exciting startup Insurtech business transforming the Specialty Insurance market through innovative Policy Administration technology. Having achieved impressive early commercial success and secured strong financial backing, they're now entering an exciting phase of expansion - and are looking for an experienced Data Architect to help shape the foundations of their next-generation data platform. There is an excellent potential career growth for the right candidate through to become Head of Data.
The Role
This is a rare opportunity to build a modern data architecture from the ground up, at a business where data isn't an afterthought - it's core to the product. You'll be designing and delivering a platform that supports underwriting, algorithms, product, and AI use cases, working at the intersection of Product, Data, Engineering, and Algorithm teams to define shared data models and bridge gaps between disciplines. This isn't a traditional BI, MI, or reporting-focused position. We're looking for someone who thinks in terms of semantic modelling, domain-driven design, and scalable, modern data ecosystems - not warehouse-centric architecture built purely for dashboards.
What You'll Be Doing
- This will initially be a hands-on role, designing and delivering a next-generation data platform that underpins underwriting, algorithmic, product and AI capabilities
- Applying strong semantic modelling and modern data architecture principles across the business
- Working cross-functionally across Product, Data, Engineering, and Algorithm teams to define shared, coherent data models
- Championing non-traditional and domain-driven data modelling approaches over purely warehouse-centric solutions
- Establishing scalable data architecture and platform foundations at pace, in a fast-moving environment
- Providing hands-on architectural leadership using modern cloud and data ecosystem tooling
What We're Looking For
- Strong experience in semantic modelling and modern data architecture in Insurance - beyond traditional BI, MI, and reporting
- Specific Lloyd's market experience is a plus, but not essential - we're prioritising platform and architecture capability over sector-specific reporting expertise
- Demonstrable ability to design and build data platforms supporting complex, multi-use-case environments (underwriting, algorithms, product, AI)
- Experience collaborating across Product, Data, Engineering, and Algorithm functions
- Solid grounding in domain-driven and non-traditional data modelling approaches
- A track record of moving fast and establishing scalable data platforms from scratch
- Hands-on expertise with modern cloud and data tooling, paired with genuine architectural leadership
